Flipkart is India’s largest e-commerce company. At Flipkart we run some of the largest Kubernetes clusters in the region. Together these clusters cover 350k cores, 30k pods and 3k services. In this talk, we talk through our journey of migrating this huge setup from Qemu based Virtual Machine stack to Kubernetes. We will also talk about how running K8s on bare metal helped us reduce application tail latencies significantly along with significant compute core savings. As lucrative as the savings seem, the journey of migrating 1000s of mission-critical services and operating large-scale resilient clusters has been an enlightening one with invaluable lessons learnt along the way.
