Environmental sustainability is a pressing issue for humanity, and with simultaneous digitization, software is playing an increasingly important role. The latest research estimates that the power demand for computing systems will grow faster than the creation of new power sources within the next ten years. What sounds like a long time is nothing we can't start work on in 9 years. Therefore, we initiated the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Environmental Sustainability Working Group. Integrating sustainability practices in how we build cloud native systems would have a massive effect. By incorporating sustainable software engineering, software engineers can be a piece of the puzzle to building a sustainable industry and a green future. Max will share with you the vision and mission of the Environmental Sustainability WG, how they want to build bridges between different communities, and the next milestones of the team, to which you can contribute too!
